Fort HealthCare is a patient-centered hospital and healthcare system serving individuals, businesses and families in Jefferson, Dane, and Walworth Counties. We are seeking a House Supervisor to join our Nursing Leadership team.

Shift:
Part time
72 hours per bi-weekly pay period
6p-6a Mon-Friday
6a-6p Sat. & Sun
6p-6a Sat. & Sunday
Weekend rotation

The House Supervisor serves as the in-house administrative and clinical management liaison, responsible for effective leadership of overall services on assigned shifts when administration is not present. The House Supervisor is responsible for administrative-type decisions and appropriate notification to department manager or administrator-on-call when deemed necessary.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Serves as a leadership resource and initial emergency point of contact to employees and providers within the hospital setting during the evening and night shift during the week and 24 hours on the weekend. This includes acting decisively to assess and coordinate challenging situations, problem solve patient and staff-related issues, promote safe and quality care, assist across the clinical setting, and make decisions in calling in additional staff and authorization of extra shift bonuses as appropriate.
  • Conducts regular rounds to all 24/7 departments (Emergency Services, Inpatient, Obstetrics, Lab, Radiology, and Environmental Services) to assess needs, staffing/acuity, potential safety concerns, clinical guidance and support, and share leadership communications as requested by management and administration. Is a clinical/nursing resource to staff members.
  • Communicates frequently with department leadership, particularly in 24/7 departments; knowledgable and supportive of initiatives taking place within departments to support measures and initiatives on shifts when department leadership/administration not present; updates department leader of any important or unusual shift activity or of any concerns within the department.
  • Serves as a resource to Transporters - obtaining clinical supplies, exchanging code carts and respiratory boxes, and assisting with transport of patients as needed.
  • Act as a liaison to Infection Control; serving as clinical resource, ensuring negative air pressure status is achieved, assisting with employee fit testing if necessary, and any other necessary function to assure that all infection control practices are in place and followed on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Works with employees, managing immediate basic performance issues; keeps department leadership informed of employee's performance (i.e.: positive feedback and opportunities for improvement). Offers department leader information and examples for employee performance evaluations as obtained.
  • Intervene in patient/family or provider complaints, supporting effective communication and conflict resolution. Provides necessary documentation of events and initiates appropriate follow-up.
  • Serve as the risk management liaison; channeling issues in accordance with hospital policies/procedures and regulatory requirements. Supports timely and accurate reporting of all patient/visitor incidences, assists to monitor and support infection control and security standards established by the organization/department
  • Provide payroll support to department leaders and staff by understanding the payroll process and entering timely and accurate information on behalf of clinical staff.
  • Respond to all emergencies as a key member and coordinates as defined by policies and practices
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, hospital policies/procedures and protocols to maintain a safe patient care environment.
  • Facilitates and guides the resource RN with patient assignments, flexible staffing, floating to other units; transferring patients; completing project work, audits, or educational requirements that can be completed during 'down-time' or when patient census/acuity is low.
  • Participates in service recovery and conflict resolution when needed, providing the best possible outcome and experience for all involved. Evaulates causative factors of employee incident reports and enters the information/action into appropriate reporting system (Clarity).
  • Participates in overarching Nursing Services initiatives, audits and hospital-wide projects; assists leaders with activities that contribute to the success of the departments; leads staff in Joint Commission projects, tracers and education.
  • Notifies surgery, endoscopy and anesthesia for unscheduled surgical cases; communicates to Perioperative Services leadership any unusual cases or staff concerns that may have occurred.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Completes department-specific orientation and annual competencies for this position. Requirements for this position include:
    • Associates Degree required
    • Bachelors Degree Preferred
    • Five years of nursing experience, with a minimum of three years of hospital nursing experience preferred. Specialty Unit experience desirable but not required. Two years of previous management/leadership experience highly recommended
    • Possesses strong leadership, organizational and communication techniques/skills. Must demonstrate superior critical thinking skills.
    • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP Certification required Benefits:
