Position: Product Development Assistant
Position reports to the CEO

Summary of Functions
- The Product Development Assistant designs, develops, and
improves new or existing lighting products. Essential Duties and
Responsibilities
- Designs and/or develops new products, including possible
proprietary items, according to the organization's Product
Development plan. Works with the design and engineering team and
R&D team, managing the flow through the project manager
software.
- Continually evaluates and searches for improvements to existing
products according to changing customer needs, product
complaints/dissatisfaction or internal production/servicing
difficulties. Reviews adaptation of existing products for new
applications or other customer markets.
- Assists in the planning, designing, and developing UL test
requirements and any special testing equipment/apparatus to
establish product and/or customer specifications; directs and
performs testing of prototypes accordingly to verify product
reliability and performance requirements.
- Creates and assists in developing engineering documentation for
new products or product changes - documentation may include
freehand sketches, detailed drawings/schematics, draft bills of
materials, engineering change notices, product specifications, and
production instructions.
- Performs other duties requested by the Engineering Manager.
Organizational Relationships
- Reports to the Engineering Manager. Coordinates activities with
R&D and outside consultants or contractors in manufacturing,
marketing, sales, and customer service. Key Responsibilities
- Assist project managers in creating and maintaining project
schedules and budgets
- Prepare project reports and presentations for senior team
members.
- Assistant project managers usually perform administrative
duties, such as organizing and maintaining the project documents,
updating the digital database, and helping to manage the project's
budget, along with basic duties, such as setting up phone calls,
meetings, and site visits. Requirements
- A high school diploma is required; college-level business
administration or industrial design coursework is preferred. Good
communication skills and the ability to work well with people are
essential. You'll need to be familiar with computer-aided
drawing/drafting applications; drafting experience is a plus.
- Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
- Manage product information online to ensure accuracy. Please
take photos if you need them.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Multitasking and the ability to shift priorities in a
fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, consistently giving your best efforts, and
continually looking for ways to improve.
- Strong interpersonal abilities and project management skills.
Role Requirements
- Ability to communicate orally with management, and other
coworkers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for
communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common.
Hearing and vision within normal ranges are helpful for normal
conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or
inspecting documents.
- No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 15 lbs. of
force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for using
standard office equipment such as computer terminals, calculators,
copiers, and FAX machines.
- Good reasoning ability, ability to think in abstract terms, and
design aptitude are required to solve a wide range of business
problems. Able to understand and utilize management reports and
plans to conduct business. Work Environment
- The job is performed indoors in a traditional office and Bench
test setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting and
extensive work at a computer. Benefits
